Best way to use exercise steps?
I have an exercise step bench i.e. a low bench/platform about 10 inches high. I want to do indoor exercises as I enjoy walking but on days like this it's too wet and windy. What the best way to use the bench - do I just step on and off it or what - and for how long? I am 60 years old.

- best thing to do is get an automatic stair climber
- You can get some rather good videos/DVDs that will take you through what to do. It gets really fancy actually, you end up jumping around all over which I suppose is good because you're working more muscles that way. They're kind of like aerobics videos really. Also, they have music which i often find encouraging when working out. I'd try ebay for them - I personally can't recommend a particular one, when I had a step I used the video that came with it. You might also like to get some weights - like little dumbells or something, so you can work your arms out at the same time. Hope this helps a bit.
- ok.. do like this... you starv urself on carbohydrates a whole week! but you still exercise! then after a week, with very little carb intake, you eat carbs, carbs and carb! you muscles will then take in as much carbohydrates as possible and your muscles will seroiusly grown quickly! maybe thats not what u wanted but still
- Start off with about 5 to ten mins, till u get used to it, and then build it up. It would be a good idea to discuss it with ur doctor first.
- I personally do step exercises... If you do not have a video I recommend going to your local library and checking one out.. Its better then spending money on one to find out it doesn't suit your needs.. For beginners... They usually have you do 1:) basic steps... up and down... Lets see what else.. 2.) V steps... put each foot out to the end of step and back down...makes a V 3:) kicks... to each corner left and right 4:) Alternating knee lits to each corner 5:) Repeaters are knee lifts on a corner in entravols of 3 to 7 on each corner 6:) L- steps are starting from floor to middle of step to (OFF) the left side of a step (both feet off) to middle of step...then off middle of step..and then do the same thing to the right side... Making an L as you step. 7:) A steps: the same thing as V step except you are using the step long ways... Go from bottom of step...Step both feet to top and step backwards to other side of step. and repeat to each side.. This would be alot easier to show then to explain... Those should be good enough to get started....
