what is the best way to exercise to lose weight to minimize muscle loss?

I weigh about 235. I am pretty good shape all around except mostly for my middle section. I have some love handle and kind of a belly and I was wondering what would be the best way about getting rid of mostly the fat around the middle without losing a lot of muscle?
